What does the Pet Symptom Checker do?

The Pet Symptom Checker matches the symptoms you are seeing against health conditions known to be common in your pet's breed. Pick the breed, select the symptoms, and it lists the breed-specific conditions those symptoms could fit, with links to the guide for each condition. It draws on Pawrora's breed health database rather than on a general symptom list, which is why it asks for the breed first: the same cough means something different in a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel than in a Border Collie. It is a preparation tool for a vet visit, not a diagnosis, and it cannot rule anything out.

How do I use the Pet Symptom Checker?

Choose your pet's breed, then select every symptom you have noticed, including ones that seem unrelated; overlapping symptoms are what distinguish one condition from another. The checker shows the matching conditions for that breed, and each opens a guide to that condition so you arrive at the vet with the right questions. Write down when each symptom started and whether it is getting worse; vets ask this first. The tool runs in the browser with no account. If any symptom is severe or sudden, such as collapse, difficulty breathing, repeated vomiting, or inability to urinate, skip the checker and call a vet.

Who is the Pet Symptom Checker for?

For owners who have noticed something wrong and want to understand what it might be before the appointment, and for owners of breeds with well-known hereditary conditions who want to know which early signs to watch for. It is especially useful for breeds where a common condition is easy to miss until it is advanced. It is not for emergencies and not a substitute for an examination: two conditions can share every symptom, and only a vet can tell them apart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a diagnosis?

No. This tool matches symptoms you observe to conditions commonly associated with your pet's breed. It cannot examine your pet, run tests, or make a diagnosis. Only a licensed veterinarian can do that. Use these results as a conversation starter with your vet.

When should I call my vet?

Call your vet if your pet shows sudden changes in behavior, appetite, or energy; difficulty breathing; signs of pain (whimpering, guarding); vomiting or diarrhea lasting more than 24 hours; or any symptom that concerns you. When in doubt, call. Vets would rather hear from you too early than too late.

Can symptoms overlap between conditions?

Yes, many symptoms like lethargy, loss of appetite, and weight loss appear across multiple conditions. That's why veterinary diagnosis requires physical examination and often blood work, imaging, or other tests. Multiple matching conditions here doesn't mean your pet has all of them.
